# How to change servings and units on a recipe

Scale any recipe up or down and switch between metric and US cups and ounces. Oven temperatures and pan sizes show in both systems.

Every recipe can be scaled to the number of servings you need and shown in Metric or US units, whatever it was written in. Ingredients and the amounts inside steps change together.

## Change the servings

**1. Find the servings stepper**

It's under the **Ingredients** heading on the recipe, showing something like "4 servings".

**2. Tap − or +**

Every ingredient amount, and the amounts mentioned in the steps, update straight away.

**3. Go back to the original**

Tap the reset link next to the stepper, like **Reset to 4 servings**.

Your choice carries into **Start cooking**, **Add to plan**, **Add to shopping list** and **Mark as cooked**, but isn't saved on the recipe. A recipe that doesn't say how many it serves counts in whole batches instead, like "2 recipes".

> **Note:**

Calories stay the same when you change servings: they're per serving, and a serving stays the same size. More servings means more food, not bigger portions.

## Switch units on one recipe

Tap the **Convert** button next to **Ingredients** and pick:

- **Original** for the recipe exactly as it was written,
- **Metric** for grams, millilitres and °C,
- **US** for cups, spoons, ounces and °F.

Oven temperatures and pan sizes show in both systems, the one you picked first, like "180 °C (350 °F)", so you can set any oven.

## Choose your units for every recipe

Open **Settings** › **Units** and choose **Metric** or **US**. With **Auto-convert** on (it is by default), every recipe opens in your units. Turn it off to open recipes as written. Your shopping list always uses your units.

> **Show metric equivalents**

Following recipes that use cups and spoons? In **Settings** › **Units**, turn on **Show metric equivalents** to keep the original amount and add millilitres beside it.

## Why didn't something convert?

- **Cups:** cup sizes differ around the world, so a bare cup with no clue to its size stays as a cup.
- **Odd amounts:** scaling can give amounts like "0.8 onion" when there's no neat fraction close by. Round to what makes sense.
- **Descriptions and tips** describe the recipe as written, so their amounts don't scale.
