# How to save a recipe from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Facebook

Share a recipe video to Phork It! or paste its link, and get a written recipe with ingredients, amounts, steps and credit to the creator.

Share the video to Phork It! from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or Facebook, or paste its link into the app. Phork It! reads what the creator wrote and said and writes it up as one clean recipe, with a link back to the original.

## Share a video to Phork It!

This is the quickest way, from the iPhone or Android app.

**1. Open the video**

In TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook or X, open the recipe video you want.

**2. Tap Share**

Pick Phork It! from the row of apps. Don't see it? See the article linked at the end of this page.

**3. Let it phork**

Phork It! opens the **Import from a link** sheet with the link filled in and starts by itself. When it says "Phorked!", tap **Open recipe**, or tap **Keep browsing** and find it in **Recipes** later.

## Paste a link instead

**4. Copy the video's link**

In the other app, tap **Share**, then **Copy link**.

**5. Open Import from a link**

In Phork It!, tap **+** at the top of **Recipes**, then **Import from a link**. If the app offers **Import copied link?** when you come back to it, tap **Paste link**.

**6. Tap Phork It!**

Paste the link if it isn't there already and tap **Phork It!**.

## What Phork It! reads in a video

Phork It! reads what the creator wrote and said:

- the caption,
- what's said out loud (the video's subtitles, or its speech turned into text),
- on TikTok, the creator's own comments, where the amounts often are,
- and the recipe page the video links to, if there is one. When it's the same dish, the recipe comes straight from that page, photos and all.

It doesn't read text that only appears on screen in the video. If the ingredients are only shown on screen, or the caption just says "recipe in bio", Phork It! can't find the whole recipe and tells you so instead of saving half of it. Try the creator's written recipe on their website.

> **Which posts work**

- **TikTok:** videos and photo posts (slideshows) both work.
- **YouTube:** videos and Shorts work.
- **Instagram:** public Reels and video posts work. Instagram often hides posts from anyone who isn't signed in, and Phork It! doesn't sign in to Instagram, so some Reels can't be read. Picture posts and carousels aren't supported yet.
- **Facebook:** public videos, reels and posts with text and photos work, including posts in public groups. Posts in private groups or shared only with friends can't be read.
- **X (Twitter):** videos work; posts with only text or pictures don't.
- Share one video at a time, not a profile, channel or feed. Live streams aren't supported.

## The video stays where it is

Phork It! keeps the written recipe and its pictures, never a copy of the video. Every recipe names the creator and links back to the original, so you can always rewatch it. Tap the credit under the recipe's title to open it.
