# How to create a recipe from scratch or with AI

Type in a family recipe yourself, or describe what you'd like to cook and let Phork It! write a recipe you can shape before saving it.

Not every recipe starts as a video. You can type one in yourself with **Create from scratch**, or describe a dish and let **Generate with AI** write it up for you to review.

## Type in a recipe yourself

**1. Open Create from scratch**

On **Recipes**, tap **+**, then **Create from scratch**.

**2. Fill it in**

Add a title, then the ingredients and steps. Tap a line to type in it; **Details** holds the description, servings, times and tags. You can add a photo too.

**3. Tap Phork It!**

Phork It! gets the recipe ready, just like an import: it adds tags and a nutrition estimate. Tap **Open recipe** when it says "Phorked!".

## Generate a recipe with AI

Tell Phork It! what you're in the mood for and it writes a complete recipe for you to check before anything is saved.

**4. Open Generate with AI**

On **Recipes**, tap **+**, then **Generate with AI**.

**5. Describe your idea**

Under "What would you like to cook?", describe a dish, ingredients you have, or what you're craving. For example: a cozy one-pot dinner with chickpeas and spinach, ready in 30 minutes. Then tap **Generate recipe**.

**6. Review and refine**

Read through the preview: title, servings and times, ingredients, steps, equipment and tips. Want changes? Type them under "What would you change?" (less spicy, make it for two…) and tap **Update recipe**. If the AI asks a question, answer it and tap **Send answer**.

**7. Tap Accept recipe**

The recipe you see is saved to **Recipes** and opens. Nothing is saved until you accept.

> **Warning:**

A generated recipe hasn't been cooked or tested by anyone, and it can't promise to meet a diet or allergy need. Read it through before you cook, and always check labels if you have an allergy.

## Good to know

- Descriptions and feedback can be up to 2,000 characters each.
- **Start over** throws the draft away. Closing the screen on your phone discards it too.
- Generating and editing with AI share an hourly limit. If you hit it, wait a little and try again.
- Generated recipes have no creator credit and no photo. You can add one with **Generate photo with AI** or **Edit**.
