Phork It! FAQ

Everything about Phork It!, the app that turns the recipe videos you save from TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, and recipes on any website, into recipes you actually cook: import, plan, shop, cook.

The basics

What is Phork It!?

Phork It! is a recipe app for iPhone and Android that turns recipe videos and recipe websites into real recipes you can cook. Share a TikTok, an Instagram Reel, a YouTube video or a recipe page to Phork It! and it writes up the recipe with ingredients, amounts and steps. Then you can put it on a weekly meal plan, get one shopping list for the week and cook it step by step.

Is Phork It! available on iPhone and Android?

Phork It! is coming soon to both the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android). It isn't in the stores yet. Join the waitlist to hear the moment it launches.

Is Phork It! free?

Phork It! is free to download and includes a limited number of free recipe imports. A subscription unlocks more. Final prices will be on this page and in the app stores at launch.

What does “phork” mean?

It's our verb for saving a recipe into the app. You saw a recipe in your feed, you phork it, and now it's a recipe you'll actually cook. Our slogan: Saved it? Phork it.

Saving recipes from videos and websites

How do I save a recipe from a TikTok video?

In TikTok, tap Share on the video and choose Phork It!, or copy the link and paste it into the app. Phork It! reads the video and gives you the recipe with ingredients, amounts and steps, plus a link back to the original video. TikTok photo posts (slideshows) work too.

Can Phork It! turn Instagram Reels into recipes?

Yes. Share a public Instagram Reel or video post to Phork It!, or paste its link, and you get a written recipe. Picture posts, carousels and posts that need you to be logged in to Instagram aren't supported yet.

Does Phork It! work with YouTube, Facebook and recipe websites?

Yes. Phork It! imports recipes from YouTube videos, public Facebook posts and recipe websites and blogs, as well as TikTok and Instagram. For a recipe website, it keeps the recipe and leaves out the long story around it.

How does Phork It! get the recipe out of a video?

Phork It! reads what the creator wrote and said: the caption, what's said out loud, and the recipe page the video links to, if there is one. On TikTok it also reads the creator's own comments, where the amounts often are. It then writes it all up as one clean recipe.

What if the video doesn't give exact amounts?

Phork It! keeps what the creator actually said, so “a splash of soy sauce” stays a splash and isn't replaced with a made-up number. You can edit any recipe after you save it.

Does Phork It! credit the original creator?

Yes. Every imported recipe credits where it came from (the creator for a video, the website for a recipe page) and links back to the original, so the credit stays with them and you can always rewatch or reread it.

Meal planning, shopping and cooking

Can I make a meal plan from recipes I saved?

Yes. Put any recipe you saved on a day of the week to build your weekly meal plan.

Does Phork It! make a shopping list?

Yes. Phork It! turns the recipes on your plan into one shopping list for the week. It merges the same ingredient across recipes (so two recipes needing garlic means one garlic line) and sorts the list by aisle.

Is there a cooking mode?

Yes. Cook mode walks you through a recipe one step at a time, with timers for the steps that need them, and keeps your screen on. When you're done you can rate the recipe and note how it turned out.

Does Phork It! show calories and nutrition?

Yes. Each recipe gets an estimated nutrition card with calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar and sodium, per serving (or for the whole recipe when it has no serving count, like a sauce). It's an estimate from the ingredients, not a lab measurement.
