On this page
Recipes are saved in the language they were written in. When one is in a language you don't read, tap Translate to English under its title and read it in English. The recipe itself never changes.
Translate a recipe
Open the recipe
On a recipe in another language, a line under the title offers Translate to English.
Tap Translate to English
It takes a few seconds. The recipe shows as written until the translation is ready.
Switch back any time
The recipe now reads in English, with a line like "Translated from Spanish · Show original". Tap Show original to see it as written, and Show in English to go back. Cook mode follows your choice.
Translate every import automatically
Open SettingsUnits and turn on Auto-translate under Recipes. From then on, every recipe you import in another language is translated into English right after the import. It's off by default.
What changes and what doesn't
- Translated: the title, description, ingredient names, notes, section headings, steps, tips, equipment and option names.
- Never changed: amounts and units, servings, times, options, photos, nutrition and the creator credit. Your plan and shopping list stay exactly as they were.
- If a translation would drop a number or an ingredient, Phork It! shows the recipe as written instead of risking a wrong amount, with "Couldn't translate this recipe" and Try again.
Editing a translated recipe
When you tap Edit on a translated recipe, Phork It! asks what you'd like to do:
- Save a copy in English makes your own English recipe and opens it for editing.
- Edit the original edits the recipe in its own language. The translation updates after a few seconds.
