Phork It! can read a recipe from photos (a cookbook page, a handwritten card, screenshots) or from text you paste in, and write it up just like a video or website import.

Import from photos

  1. Open Import from photos

On Recipes, tap +, then Import from photos.

  2. Add your pictures

Tap Take photo to use the camera, or Choose photos to pick from your library. You can add up to 10 pictures of one recipe.

  3. Put them in reading order

Drag the pages into the order you'd read them, left to right. A recipe that runs over two pages or several screenshots is fine.

  4. Tap Phork It!

The steps tick off as Phork It! reads your photos. Tap Open recipe when it's ready.

Your photos stay with the recipe, in the order you added them. The best photo of the finished dish becomes the cover; you can change it later in Edit.

Import from text

Got a recipe in a note, an email or a message? Paste it in.

  1. Copy the recipe

Copy the whole recipe, ideally with its ingredients and steps.

  2. Open Import from text

On Recipes, tap +, then Import from text, and paste it into the box. On a phone you can also share text from another app to Phork It!.

  3. Tap Phork It!

Phork It! tidies it up into ingredients with amounts and numbered steps.

Good to know

  • One recipe per import. Photos or text with several different recipes are refused with "This has several recipes in it. Import one recipe at a time."
  • Photos: JPEG, PNG and WebP pictures work. Keep the text sharp and the page flat for the best result.
  • Text: up to 20,000 characters.
  • Recipes from photos or text have no creator credit, because there's no link to credit.
  • Pasting the same text twice makes a second copy. A link you import twice just opens the recipe you already have.
