How Phork It! writes up an imported recipe

What happens to vague amounts, servings, options, language and creator credit when Phork It! turns a video or page into a recipe, and how to fix mistakes.

Phork It! keeps what the creator actually said and writes it up as one tidy recipe. It never makes up amounts, and anything you'd like different is one Edit away.

Amounts stay honest

If the creator says "a splash of soy sauce", it stays a splash. Phork It! doesn't swap it for a made-up number. Where the source gives amounts, they're written as numbers in your units, so every measured line scales and converts the same way.

Because some amounts are vague, a few things are estimates and say so:

  • Servings: when the source doesn't say how many it serves, Phork It! estimates it and shows "≈", like "≈ 4 servings".
  • Nutrition: calories and nutrients are worked out from the ingredients, and show as a range when the amounts are vague.

Recipes with options

Some recipes come in versions: three fillings, a meat and a veggie version, two sauces. Instead of one long ingredient list, Phork It! saves one recipe with options. On the recipe you pick an option with its tab, and only that option's own ingredients and steps show alongside the shared ones.

Language and credit

  • Language: recipes stay in the language they were written in. If you'd like one in English, tap Translate to English under its title.
  • Credit: every imported recipe names the creator ("@handle") for a video, or the website's name for a page, and links back to the original.
  • Tags: meal type, cuisine and diet tags are added for you. Diet tags like vegan or gluten-free are only added when Phork It! is quite sure, but they're still not a promise: check the ingredients.

When something looks wrong

Imports are written up by AI, and now and then an amount or a step comes out differently from the source. Before you cook something new, it's worth a quick look against the original: tap the credit under the title to open it.

  1. Open the recipe's menu

Tap the menu button at the top right of the recipe.

  2. Tap Edit

Fix any ingredient, step, title or servings, then tap Save.

  3. Tell us about it (optional)

To help us improve imports, choose Report a problem from the same menu. The recipe's details are included for you.
