Switching from another recipe app? Export your recipes there, then choose that file in Phork It!. You pick which recipes to bring in, and they're imported in the background with their photos, notes and a link back to where they came from.

Apps you can move from

Find your app below and export your recipes there. Then bring the file into Phork It! with the steps in the next section.

Paprika

.paprikarecipes file

Select the recipes you want, or all of them, and export them in Paprika's own format (Paprika Recipe Format).

Mealie

.zip file

Select your recipes in the recipe list and export them. Exports from older Mealie versions (before 1.0) work too.

Tandoor

.zip file

Open Tandoor's export page and export your recipes in the Default format.

Copy Me That

.zip file

Export your recipes in HTML format. The download has your recipes and their photos.

Recipe Keeper

.zip file

Export your recipes in zip format, with their photos.

Plan to Eat

.csv or .zip file

Export your recipes. Plan to Eat gives you a spreadsheet (CSV), sometimes inside a zip.

My Recipe Box

.csv file

Export your recipes in CSV format.

Nextcloud Cookbook

.zip file

In Nextcloud Files, download your Recipes folder. Nextcloud saves it as a zip with each recipe's photo.

Another app or a spreadsheet

.json, .csv, .zip or .html file

Many apps can export recipe data (schema.org JSON) or saved recipe pages. A spreadsheet works too, with a title column and ingredients or directions.

Apps without an export

Some apps, such as ReciMe and Honeydew, can't export your whole collection. Bring those recipes over one at a time: open the recipe's original page or video and share its link to Phork It!, or paste a recipe's text into Import from text.

Save the file somewhere you can reach from Phork It!: Files on iPhone, your Downloads folder on Android or your computer.

Bring them into Phork It!

  1. Open Import from another app

On Recipes, tap +, then Import from another app.

  2. Choose the file

Tap Choose file and pick the file you exported (in the browser, then click Continue). Phork It! lists the recipes in it.

  3. Pick your recipes

Every recipe is ticked, except ones that look like a recipe you already have, marked Already in your recipes. Untick any you don't want, or use Select all or Select none.

  4. Import them

Tap the import button, for example Import 12 recipes. You can close the screen: recipes appear on Recipes as they're ready, and a card there shows how far it has got.

What comes over

  • Recipes: title, ingredients with their sections, steps, servings and times, written up like an imported recipe website.
  • Photos: each recipe's photo from the file.
  • Notes: your notes from the other app, as the recipe's tips.
  • Credit: a link to the page the recipe came from, when the other app kept one.
  • Ratings: the stars you gave a recipe become its Your rating.
  • When you last made it: from Mealie, as one cook in the recipe's History.
  • Saved links: a recipe the other app kept only as a link is imported from that page.

The rest of your cooking history, meal plans and shopping lists don't come over yet.

Good to know

  • A file can be up to 100 MB with up to 1000 recipes. For a bigger library, export it in a few smaller batches.
  • A big library takes a while, sometimes a few hours, because recipes import one after another. Leave it running.
  • Recipes you didn't pick can still be imported from the same file for a week. After that, choose the file again.
  • If a few recipes couldn't be imported, open them in the other app and paste them into Import from text.
Saving recipesHow to import a recipe from a photo, screenshot or textTurn a cookbook page, a handwritten card, a screenshot or a recipe copied from a message into a saved recipe, with up to 10 photos per recipe.
