A recipe you typed or pasted in has no picture, and some imports come without one. You can take or choose your own photo, or let Phork It! generate a realistic photo of the dish.

Generate a photo with AI

  1. Open the recipe's menu

Choose Generate photo with AI. (A recipe you're still typing in needs saving first.)

  2. Tap Generate photo with AI

Phork It! makes a photo based on the recipe's title, ingredients and steps. It can take a little while; you can close the screen and come back, and it picks up where it left off.

  3. Review the preview

Like it? Tap Add photo. Not quite right? Tap Generate another photo.

Nothing changes until you tap Add photo. If the recipe had no photos, the new one becomes its cover; otherwise it's added after your other photos, and the cover you chose stays.

Use your own photo

Open the recipe's menu, choose Edit, then tap Choose photo on the picture. You can take a photo, choose one from your library, remove the current one, or bring back the original with Use original photo. Tap Save.

Got a photo of what you actually made? Add it to your cook instead, when you mark the recipe as cooked.

Ingredient pictures

Small illustrated pictures sit beside many ingredients in recipes, cook mode and your shopping list, so you can spot things at a glance. Not every ingredient has one yet.

To turn them off (or back on), open SettingsAppearance and switch Ingredient pictures. The choice follows your account to your other devices.
